The Lord's Prayer:
The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught
by Adam Hamilton
Rev. Karen will be leading a six-week Lenten Bible study written by Adam Hamilton titled: The Lord's Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught.
This study will take place at Ridgewood UMC on Wednesday mornings at 10 AM in-person and on Zoom. This study includes a video series to enhance our learning about the Lord's Prayer
The dates for the study are on the following Wednesdays during Lent. March 1,8,15, 22, 29, April 5. At Ridgewood UMC
More information:
Most Christians know the Lord's Prayer by heart. We pray it often, at different times and in different settings. We remember it as the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words, what we ask of God each time we pray it?
When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them this prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord's Prayer to be a museum piece, framed and placed on a mantel or in a display case. It was Jesus teaching God's people, through His disciples, how to pray.
It is important for us to really know-and really pray-the Lord's Prayer. Adam Hamilton explores each of its rich lines and their meaning in the Bible, illuminating what we ask of God and what we ask of ourselves through its words. And he teaches us how to use it as a pattern for our own prayer life.
I hope you will join me this Lenten Season as we examine and pray the Lord's pray together. Please sign up through the church office so that study books may be ordered for you.
Please call the church office to sign up by February 14, 440-845-1244.
During Lent we will be collecting socks, and underwear for all ages!
WHY: For those experiencing homelessness, underwear and socks are essential and high-need items. Yet, these tend to be some of the most under-donated items of clothing to local shelters and transitional housing programs.
Together we can help our neighbors in need with much needed clothing items. All items will be donated to the Nehemiah Mission
There are many things that can rob us of our joy if we allow them to, things such as negative thoughts, worry, anger, and other sins with which we struggle. What things rob you of your joy in God through Christ, and how do you deal with them? Members of both Pleasant Hills and Ridgewood UMC are invited to join me Monday evenings during Lent, at 7:00 PM at Pleasant Hills Church, as we dig into God's Word together and learn how to Biblically handle the things of this world that rob us of our joy.
This five-week Bible study will begin Monday, February 27, 2023 and will conclude on Monday, March 27, 2023. The study schedule is as follows:
Week 1 Monday, February 27: Robbers of Our Joy: Introduction and Purpose
Week 2 Monday, March 6: Robbers of Our Joy: Negative thoughts
Week 3 Monday, March 13: Robbers of Our Joy: Worry and Fear
Week 4 Monday, March 20: Robbers of Our Joy: Anger and Other Sins
Week 5 Monday, March 27: Robbers of Our Joy: Wrap-up and Reflections
Come as you are, and as you are able. I look forward to unpacking God's Word together!
