Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ. By now, I trust that you are aware of the growing concern surrounding the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) both around the world and in our county. I want to assure you the entire Pleasant Hills Church staff and leadership are taking seriously the growing concern and seeking to take precautions for our church family and community. What we are not doing is panicking.
Our incredible and diligent custodians are making sure to sanitize and disinfect our building and commonly used surfaces. Throughout the church building you will find hand sanitizer, tissues, and trash receptacles. Please make use of these items to aid in health. Also, be sure to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Did you know in 20 seconds you can sing the Doxology or a verse of Jesus Loves Me?
Greeting one another before, during, and after worship is an important part of our community and fellowship. Our greeters and pastor will be refraining from shaking hands, hugging, or engaging in any other close contact. We encourage you to greet one another from a distance or come up with some creative ways to say hello.
We will continue to worship as normal with a few adjustments. We will offer Communion by intinction with pieces of bread large enough to ensure that only the bread is dipped in the cup. However, we will also offer individual, prepackaged cup and bread for those who feel more comfortable partaking in this way. Gluten free elements will remain available as always. Our communion stewards and servers will continue to wash and sanitize their hands prior to serving the elements. Additionally, we will refrain from passing the offering plate. The offering plates will be placed in the church lobby before and after the worship service and you can place your tithes and offerings on your way in or out of the sanctuary. We also encourage you to give online!
With the knowledge that as a community we have and serve folks that are considered at risk, we ask that you do the following:
1. Please stay home if you are sick or contagious.
2. Please feel free to stay home if you live with susceptibility and wish to play it safe.
3. Please respect the personal boundaries of others who may have reasons to avoid contact.
4. Please keep connected with the church during any absence through call or email.
Many retirement communities, nursing facilities, and hospitals have placed restrictions on visitors. If you are planning a visit to someone, please call in advance and find out what restrictions may be in place. If you are requesting a pastoral visit for yourself or a loved one, please let our pastor or church office know of any restrictions or special circumstances.
Above all, we don’t want to add to or encourage more fear or paranoia. At Pleasant Hills Church we seek to love God and neighbor and to care for one another well. We want to practice good and healthy hospitality and health practices during this time of shared illness. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the church office or our pastor.
With love and care,
