We’ve all heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge – a fundraiser for the ALS association that has raised $115 million since July 29 of this year to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The East Ohio Conference has been active in a relief effort to eradicate the deadly Ebola virus from West Africa. While thousands of people have been afflicted with Ebola, everyone in Liberia and Sierra Leone has been impacted by it.
To make up for a lack of sales, businesses are charging more for their products. A 50-kilo bag of rice that cost $35 before the Ebola outbreak now sells for $70. Since people can’t always afford to pay that price, many have died from starvation.
You can help by accepting the East Ohio Rice Bucket Challenge.
Every $70 raised will buy one 50-kilo bag of rice.
Donate money, then challenge your friends, family, small group members, and congregation members to do the same.
Contact the church office if you would like to help support this mission.
Pleasant Hills UMC announces the Seventh Annual ChurchLights, a free indoor animated light display, starting November 30th and running every Sunday until Christmas from 6 to 8 pm.
Every performance features over 20,000 lights choreographed to Christmas music and videos, making it a night of faith and fun for the whole family. Enjoy lights dancing to your favorite classics and contemporary Christmas music. Guests will also be able to enjoy free face painting and children’s crafts, as well as delicious hot wassail. It’s a fun, free evening perfect for the whole family.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Pleasant Hills will be “giving Christmas away” by helping local families in need. Any and all monetary donations, as well as donations of non-perishable foods, made during the performances will be donated to local food pantries, including both the Parma Heights and Middleburg Heights food pantries.
Performances will be held in the sanctuary of the church at 13200 East Bagley Road in Middleburg Heights, OH. If you’d like more information or want to stay up to date on Chruchlights, please visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/churchlights.
